Manitoba PNP

People from your country and around the world choose to immigrate to the Canadian province of Manitoba. Our strong economy, beautiful land and friendly people give opportunities for better jobs and richer family life. Most immigrants arrive through the Manitoba government’s free Provincial Nominee Program.

For New immigrants Canasia will help you get settled, look for jobs and learn English. The site is also for employers, and for people who work with newcomers.
The MPNP General stream is for skilled workers who can be assessed enough points in each assessment factor and who can demonstrate their intention and ability to establish successfully and permanently in Manitoba. The assessment factors are explained below.

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY UNDER THE GENERAL STREAM YOU MUST PROVIDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Proof of a close relative in Manitoba *
  2. Two affidavits of support (MAS), each completed by a close friend or distant relative in Manitoba **
  3. Proof that you have previously worked full-time in Manitoba for at least six months
  4. Proof that you completed an educational program in Manitoba of at least one academic year (excluding language-training programs)

*Applicants with close relatives in Manitoba should only apply to the General stream if they do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Family Support priority assessment stream.
** You may apply with the support of members of a Manitoba ethno cultural community organization provided that they know you personally and sign affidavits of support (MAS). This may demonstrate that you have “family-like” support to help you adapt to life in Manitoba.

Skilled workers who apply under the General stream will be considered for nomination if they can satisfy the MPNP that they:

  1. Can be assessed sufficient points for nomination
  2. Have the training, work experience and language ability necessary for long-term employment in Manitoba (including any license or certification required in your country of residence)
  3. have demonstrated a clear ability and intention to establish permanently and successfully in Manitoba

Your application will be assessed points according to age, education, work experience, language ability and adaptability. You must score at least 55 points, as assessed by a MPNP program officer.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR THE MPNP?

  1. The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is a government immigration program that selects skilled workers who demonstrate they have the potential and the desire to immigrate and settle themselves and their families in the Canadian province of Manitoba.
  2. Note that the MPNP has several “streams.” For example, there’s a stream for graduating international students and a stream for applicants who have the support of family who reside in Manitoba. The streams have different criteria; each stream is explained on its own page of this website.
  3. In summary, the MPNP accepts applications from skilled workers who can make a positive contribution to Manitoba’s economy and society as permanent residents. This requires:
  4. education and training
  5. Work experience
  6. Enough English or French to start a job soon after arrival
  7. A connection to Manitoba (for example, friends or family or current employment)
  8. Settlement supports (enough money to maintain yourself and your family while you are becoming established)
  9. The intention to settle permanently in Manitoba

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  1. The International Student priority assessment stream is for graduates who have established strong ties to Manitoba and intend to live, work and establish their careers here.
  2. To be eligible to apply you must have already:
  3. Graduated from a post-secondary educational program of at least one academic year at a Manitoba institution
  4. Obtained a post-graduation open work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) received from a Manitoba employer a formal offer of a full-time, long-term job related to your field of studies, AND
  5. You must be working for that Manitoba employer, and have been so for at least six months.

EMPLOYER DIRECT
Employer Direct is a MPNP priority assessment stream that helps foreign workers who have been working in Manitoba for at least six months, reside permanently within the province.

Under this stream you can apply to immigrate to Manitoba on the strength of a long-term, full-time job offer from a Manitoba employer. Once the employer provides you with the job offer, you can include it with your MPNP application.

To be considered for nomination you must demonstrate that you have:
A formal offer of long-term, full-time job with a Manitoba employer*
The training, work experience and language ability required for the job you have been offered (including any licence or certification required in your country of residence)
The intention and the ability to settle permanently in Manitoba

OPEN FOR BUSINESS THROUGH IMMIGRATION
Provincial Nominee Program for Business
This program allows Manitoba to recruit and nominate for Canadian permanent resident status qualified business people from around the world who have the intent and ability to move to Manitoba and establish, purchase a business or become partners in an existing business.

Young Farmer Nominee Program
If you are considering starting a farm in Manitoba but do not meet the eligibility criteria for the PNP-B, the Young Farmer Nominee Program is an exciting opportunity that may still allow you to qualify.

WORK IN MANITOBA
Manitoba has many job opportunities in different industries and business services. If you are a permanent resident of Canada you are allowed to work here. But if you are staying temporarily you will need a temporary work permit.
Permanent resident status does not guarantee you employment. It is up to you to find a job and show the employer that you are qualified. It may take months to find a job, and longer if you need to upgrade your skills, your education, your English proficiency or, in the case of regulated trades and professions, become licensed.
To work you must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) card. To get one go to a Service Canada office. Show your landing document or permanent resident card.
